Library
Modoc Charter School maintains more than 20,000 titles, resource and reference materials. Our resource collection is very current, with most textbooks and materials newer than 5 years old and the largest proportion 1 to 2 years old. The school offers a terrific video collection to enhance learning, as well as a very new Reference collection, an internet-based encyclopedia and research system for all MCS families, and a 3-computer lab in the Library. The collection of book titles for children and young adults is growing annually. All textbook materials are categorized according to subject and grade level to aid students, parents and teachers.
The on-site Library is located in our administrative office at 214 W. 1st Street, in Alturas, CA. Regular Library hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Student materials are checked out by one of two methods. Most resources are chosen in the process of teachers working with parents to select the most appropriate course materials for their students’ classes. Some parents and students also drop in to browse the Library for additional books, games, learning aides, videos, science kits or equipment, etc. and check those out to use for additional learning activities. All reference materials stay in the Library, to be used there for those who need that information.
